Australian newspapers redact Front Page over media crisis
All newspapers in in Australia redacted the Front Page of their dailies on Monday, 21 October 2019. As per reports, all of the print newsdailies blacked out their front pages and carried no news in protest against the criminalisation of the media and persecution of whistleblowers down under.
The Guardian reports that the most recent examples were raids by Australian authorities on the home of a NewsCorp reporter Annika Smethurst and the headquarters of the Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC).
A lawyer and a witness (whose identity had been withheld) in the espionage case of Australia were recently given jail terms for speaking out against the intelligence agencies of the country.
