HC lifts injunction, Cobrapost releases Dainik Bhaskar tapes
The investigative journalism portal Cobrapost produced a two-part documentary series called Operation 136. Part one of the story was released on 26th March, 2018. The documentary exposed seventeen media houses and their ill practices, including indulgence in paid news, peddling communal agenda, mass polarization, and acceptance of illegal black currency.
The second part of the documentary was to be screened on May 25, 2018. However, Dainik Bhaskar Group, who feature as part of the investigations, had sought an ex-parte injunction from the High Court against the screening of the second part of Operation 136. The argument offered by Dainik Bhaskar is “irreparable loss and injury will be caused to the reputation...which cannot be undone,” and the High Court issued a restraining order on the public screening of the Cobrapost documentary. Honoring the High Court injunction, Cobrapost canceled the screening of the documentary and released the second part of the series online excluding the part on Dainik Bhaskar.
On September 29, 2018, Delhi High Court passed the order lifting the ex-parte injunction against releasing of the documentary by Cobrapost.
With the lifting of the restraining order, Cobrapost releases the videos transcripts of the expose on Dainik Bhaskar on its website - www.cobrapost.com
