Pulitzer-winning journalist Dexter Filkins has reported on Indian politics, taking a dive into the escalation of conflict in Kashmir, post abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. The report largely looks at India springboarding from the reports of journalist Rana Ayyub, who also wrote the controversial book The Gujarat Files.

This is the first attempt at long form coverage by the magazine to decode Modis brand of politics and governance since he took over as prime minister back in 2014. It also mentions the firing of editors of prominent publications in India following adverse reports about Modi and his associates.

The story is in the current, print issue of the magazine. Filkins is known for his work on covering conflicts in West Asia.
