Petition: Insure journalists covering Covid
A petition filed before the Delhi High Court has asked for a Rs 50-lakh insurance cover for reporters covering the Covid-19 pandemic.
As India is in the second week of lockdown, reporters and photo- and video-journalists are out covering developments. That includes the briefing by the union health ministry, the exodus of migrants from cities (especially New Delhi) and a few stories from the hospitals and quarantine centres but the last category is restricted because of the threat of infection.
This puts the journalists at great risk of contracting the Covid-19 disease themselves. Only a handful of photographers have been seen wearing protective gear.
