Mumbai Mirror drops controversial cartoon featuring Modi
Mumbai Mirror, the tabloid newspaper of the Times Group, has dropped a cartoon that caricatured PM Narendra Modi as the 'butcher of Gujarat' and apolgised.
In it 2 May 2019 edition, Mumbai Mirror had carried the controversial cartoon at the foot of a political column by author and columnist, Aakar Patel, titled 'Poll Dance'. The caricature included digs at both Rahul Gandhi and Modi. Gandhi is caricatured as someone who will have to clear thing with his mother and Modi's caricature is labeled as the 'butcher of Gujarat'.
However, Mirror withdrew the cartoon from both its online version and its e-paper, and issued an apology along with a tweet.
The apology was limited to Modi and not extended to Gandhi who was also caricatured in the same cartoon.
